Venture Lab is hosting Ask the Expert webinar
On March 24th, the Swiss Foodtech Startup Innovation Webinar will be held by Venturelab together with the Japanese External Trade Organization (JETRO). 8 innovative foodtech startups have been selected and will pitch their solution ranging from agricultural systems for sustainability, meat alternatives or digital platforms during the webinar in order to develop collaborative R&D projects or business collaboration with Japanese corporations. In addition, Michael Kleindl from Switzerland’s foodtech specialized venture capital firm Blue Horizon Ventures will give a keynote on the future of food, the strengths of the Swiss food ecosystem and its future prospects.
What is JETRO?
JETRO, or the Japan External Trade Organization, is a government-related organization that works to promote mutual trade and investment between Japan and the rest of the world. JETRO have wide range of network with 76 overseas offices in 55 countries, 48 reagional offices in Japan. In Switzerland, JETRO Geneva officeworks to connect Swiss and Japanese companies.
Why Japan now?
Hit by Corona pandemics, Japan has maintained its safety with low infection rate of 60 per million weekly (France 2300, Switzerland 890). With the large-scale stimulus measures of 760B CHF, it economy is stabilized. Its unemployment rate is only 2.9% (US 6.3%, France 8.9% (End of 2020-Jan 2021)). Japan set DX (digital transformation) as the center pillar of Japanese economic policy, establishing Digital Agency to integrate all IT policies. Japan is welcoming Tokyo 2020 games (in 2021 Summer) for the economic and cultural boost of a nation. In this context, the Japanese industry is accelerating open innovation with startups abroad.
